Construction is coming along on the building that will serve as the new fire station in Reston. Being built on the Wiehle Avenue site of the station that was demolished early this year, this new two-story station is on-track to open in summer 2021. A temporary modular facility was placed near the North County Government Center and is serving the community in the meantime.

The original station served Reston starting in 1972, and was starting to show its age at the time of demolition. As a further complication, the station had also reached capacity for equipment and personnel, while Reston has grown substantially since the first phase of the Silver Line opened in 2014 and will continue to grow through the opening of the next phase and beyond. In 2015, a referendum was approved to issue a bond that funds the new construction.

The new building will have four apparatus bays and additional personnel space on the second floor above. The gross floor area will be around twice that of the old building, and the new station is expected to have the capacity to serve Reston for the foreseeable future.
